RG Kar ex-principal, cop may be named in CBI’s additional chargesheet: Sources

The CBI is planning to file a supplementary chargesheet in the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar hospital, accusing its former principal Sandip Ghosh and a Kolkata Police official of hiding the crime and destroying evidence, sources told India Today TV.
The body of the trainee doctor was found at 9.30 am on August 9 by her colleague who went looking for her before starting ward rounds in the hospital.
The junior doctor’s killing sparked protests by resident doctors across the country, demanding better security for them. The Supreme Court also took note of the case and related allegations levelled by agitating doctors and has been holding hearings on the matter.
The central probe agency on Monday filed its first chargesheet before a Sealdah court after it took over the investigation from the Kolkata Police, charging Sanjoy Roy, a Kolkata Police civic volunteer, for raping and murdering the trainee doctor.
The CBI has charged Roy with sections 64 and 66 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to rape and 103(1) relating to murder and ruled out the possibility of gang-rape in the case.
However, in its first chargesheet, the CBI did not name Sandip Ghosh and Kolkata Police official Abhijit Mondal, the then head of Tala police station, where the crime was first reported.
In its first chargesheet, the CBI pointed out that Sanjoy Roy and Abhijit Mondal made attempts to “hush up the matter and destruction of evidence”, following which they were arrested under relevant sections of the BNS.
Sandip Ghosh is also facing another CBI case pertaining to alleged financial irregularities at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital when he was the principal.
